A 3 & 1/2 day workshop on OpenBTS deployment and development, conducted on 23-26 June 2010 on a farm near Pfarrkirchen, Germany. This rural environment will afford participants the chance to set up, operate and "hack" multiple medium- sized outdoor BTS sites. This will be an immersive workshop, with morning, afternoon and evening sessions and most meals taken together as a group.
The cost of this workshop will be $2100 with a $700 discount for students, faculty members and employees of non-profit organizations.
This is an ALL INCLUSIVE cost. The workshop will arrange for all meals, lodging in Pfarrkirchen and ground transportation from Munich airport on 23 June and returning there on 27 June. (See FAQ below.)
The tentative schedule is:
23 June
evening -- Introductions and welcome dinner.
24 June
morning -- An overview of the OpenBTS approach and the hardware "kit".
afternoon -- Installing OpenBTS sites around the farm property.
evening -- Configuration #1: isolated cells and an initial tour of
OpenBTS.config and the CLI.
25 June
morning -- GSM/SIP mobility and PSTN connectivity.
afternoon -- Configuration #2: a unified network and a closer look at OpenBTS.config, the CLI and GSM-TAP with Wireshark.
evening -- SMS on Um, SIP/SIMPLE, messaging gateways and smqueue.
26 June
morning -- Implementing custom short code services in smqueue.
afternoon -- TBD, based on participant demand.
evening -- Farewells and closing dinner.
FAQ:
What is the language for the workshop? English.
Do I need to supply my own USRP hardware? No. The workshop will
provide hardware kits.
Do I need any special software on my computer? Just a terminal
program and ssh.
Where will we stay? The workshop fee includes lodging. There are
several small, nice hotels in town. We will select one once we know
how many people to expect.
Where will we eat? We will have breakfast at the hotel, lunch at the
workshop site and dinner either at the hotel or at the workshop
site. Meals are included in the workshop fee.
Will I need a car? No. Bring one if you like, but we will provide
transportation to and from Munich airport and between the hotel and
the workshop site.
When should I plan my return flight? Plan for the flight on the 27th, and plan 3 hours for the ride from the workshop to the Munich airport.
Can I bring my own OpenBTS hardware if I already have it? Yes. You
are welcome to do that.
Can I bring a guest? Maybe, but it's probably not a good idea. The
workshop will be immersive, including meals, so you and your guest
will not have a lot of time together. This is a rural area and the
workshop will be held outside of their normal tourist season, so
there my not be much for your guest to do.
